Festival 2002 at the Starbar was a very strange one indeed. It all
started when in off the street walked a Andrew Bailey looking for
somewhere to stay, as do many artists around that time of year,
but none with such a sense of unpredictability as Bailey.
We helped out with somewhere to stay that first night. So he was
off to get his gear and would return later to catch our live music
spot.
That night we had Andrew Taylor performing his own songs, when in
walked Bailey with a bag and video cassette sleeve lined with harmonicas
in various keys. No longer than getting a drink in he was up on
the stage and ripping into a blues jam with the ever (musically)
accomodating Andrew " teach " Taylor.
More drinks were supplied (large Laphroiags) where Bailey proceeded
to dip his harp into his drink and blast the night away. Bailey's
musical sharpness was complemented throughout by an off the wall
comedy routine which drew upon visual aids such as wellie boots,
ping pong balls and a variety of kitchen utensils. Completely unique
performer.
Well what a start to the festival that was, and Bailey enjoyed performing
in the starbar with its friendly atmosphere so much that outwith
his Fringe committments at the The Stand Comedy Club, used the Starbar
as an outlet for his bizarre and very much improvised gig with Andrew
Taylor supporting his blues/ comedy Special.
This year Mr Bailey has offered his services throughout the 2003
festival while also appearing at the comedy stand club daily.
